Pies

We will be holding our pie bake on Saturday, September 12th in the Church Social Hall from 9 a.m. on. Please bring the following:

  • paring knives
  • peelers
  • rolling pins
  • aluminum pie pans

For those of you who would like to bake at home, please use the following recipe. We can provide freezer space if needed. Do not make the pies before September 6th. You can drop them off directly at the pie booth the day of the fair if that is easier for you.

Pie Crust Recipe (for approximately 6 pie crusts)

  • 5 c flour
  • 2 c Crisco
  • 1 egg
  • 1 Tbs of apple or white vinegar
Mix flour and Crisco until crumbly. In an 8oz measuring cup beat egg, then add vinegar. Add enough water to make 8 oz. Stir. Combine flour mix and water, stir until batter is smooth.

Apple Pie Filling

  • 6 c sliced pared apples
  • 2 Tbs flour
  • 1/2 - 3/4 c sugar
  • 2 Tbs butter or margarine
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
Combine all ingredients. Pour into pie crust. Dot top of apples with butter. Bake at 400o for 15 minutes, then reduce heat to 350o degrees for 45 minutes.

PIE BOOTH
We will also need help in the pie booth on the day of the fair. We have 2-hour time slots, 9-11, 11-1 and 1-3. Please call us if you can help out on the day of the fair. We get a lot of business!

Thanks so much. If you have questions, call or e-mail to Lee Morgan or Sue Paola.
