As a child, Jesus felt God's loving embrace and, in community, experienced intellectual challenge and spiritual nourishment. Later in life, recognizing the essential value of those early years, Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of heaven belongs." (Matthew 19:14) At First Church, we humbly endeavor to honor that invitation and create an environment of spiritual enrichment for our families.
Moreover, we believe education to be a life-long journey. From our earliest days being held and comforted in the nursery, through age-appropriate lessons crafted for elementary and middle school youth, to our Senior High Group, and continuing through adulthood, God calls us to grow in understanding, to laugh and to learn, to grapple with questions, and to discover and re-discover the blessings of our faith.
In this spirit, First Church seeks to educate across the full spectrum of interests and ages. From Sunday School through Confirmation, from frequent Second Hour presentations (after Sunday worship) to public lectures that press the intersection of faith and culture, from world-class concerts and events to various small-group ministries--"The Church at the Center..." cherishes education's ability to spark our spirit, open our eyes (in a world of many religions), and test our faith.
Together, our congregants and staff endeavor to create a rich, open-minded learning environment that serves both our congregation and our community at large. Whatever your age, whatever inspires you--come learn with us!
